When I first moved into my little corner of cyberspace, early in 1996, I called my site Brother Wombat meets the Vicar, because without proper supervision I tend to come up with things like that. Without the influence of semi-sane people, I even tend to think that they are good ideas!
This permutation only lasted for a month or so. Soon I decided it was more fun to draw aardvarks than wombats and so the site became How Not to be Eaten by an Aardvark and lived out it's quiet exitence on the internet under that name for quite a while. If you'd like to find out how not to be eaten by an aardvark, click here.
Fairly early on, in the summer of '96, I began to work on some Lyle Lovett fan pages. I thought it would be nice if something on my site could actually attract traffic. At the time, there was very little about Lyle anywhere on the internet. Eventually, these pages became very successful; they've even been written about in the "What to Surf" section of Entertainment Weekly magazine.
In March 1998, about two years after starting Brother Wombat, I decided to rename the site Aardvark Web!. I wanted to keep the Aardvark theme, but make the name feel large enough to encompass the ever growing and increasingly eclectic collection of documents that made up the site.
Then darkness fell. I failed to pay my phone bill near the start of 2002 and found myself cut off from the internet. For the next year, I was too broke to get myself reconnected.
Order was restored to my little e-universe in 2003 through the kindness of my Aunt who spoils me. Not only am I back online, I now have a domain name: www.timhinkle.com. With the new domain, it seemed logical to change the name of the site once again. After toying with Fred Won't Stop Playing his Electric Tuba, I settled on the quick-and-catchy w w w . Tim Hinkle . c o m. Actually, I made the Tuba thing up when I was writing this page; it was always going to be Tim Hinkle . c o m.
In May of 2005, I moved the site from its server on Yahoo! to A Small Orange. I decided not to move the Lyle Lovett pages with everything else, as I had been ignoring them throughout the last year anyway. Replacing the Lyle site, up to a point, www.theindulgences.com is the official site of the new band that I am playing in, not currently as well known or popular as Lyle Lovett, but of a lot more interest to me, so more likely to actually see updated content on occasion.

Below is a sample of the site background from the Brother Wombat days. I couldn't bear to get rid of it altogether, but it no longer fits in anywhere else. Just think, the whole site would have had that underneath it (the Aardvark Web main page background is actually a lot worse but for some reason I'm still using it - go figure).
